Putting technology into the hands of creators like you and making the future brighter—one arc at a time
An Affordable Solution to Precision EDM
EDM equipment has been expensive and out-of-reach for so long. But not anymore. ArcForge is on a mission to provide affordable solutions for the creators and small businesses that want the precision and unique ability of electrical discharge machining.
I ordered the book and PCB from Ben which swiftly arrived. Stuffing of the board was very easy. I can say that it performed well beyond my expectations—the only problem now is pulling myself away from this wondrous machine. If anyone is thinking of building [an] EDM machine I would say go for it—you’ll be glad you did.

I work at Texas Instruments Inc. in Dallas. I just received a copy of your book on the EDM machine. I read it last night and finished it tonight. I have to say that it is a pleasure to read a technical manual that is written as good or better than I could have written it! Step by step on all parts listed. Thank you and keep up the good work. I am looking forward to buying more of your books if you do another one.

I received the book yesterday, and I am impressed with the detail that I haven’t seen since Heath Kits! Thanks for the fine job. I look forward to doing this project.

I purchased your book and PCB. Thank you for the very nice work. I appreciate the time you must have spent to write this. Again, very well done.

What a great book you have written! The down-to-earth approach is just super! I am a retired Manufacturing Engineer, and seeing this project really wet my appetite. I have built small—“Popular Mechanics” style EDMs for tap busting in the past, and always wanted a servo driven unit now I will have one.

I’m still impressed with your selection of parts vs price and the way the board is going together nicely. As an example I didn’t realize the fan you spec’d (for ~$12) was a full sized “muffin” fan. The real “Muffin” versions from what I remember over the years were pretty pricey.

Learn How to Make Your Own Ram EDM
Most EDM machines are large, commercial units that cost many thousands of dollars and occupy a large amount of space. There are few—if any at all—affordable benchtop machines available for home or small machine shop applications. It is our intent to fill this void by providing information and tools for building a reasonably priced, benchtop-sized EDM that has the capability of performing real, precision work.
With instructions for both a Pulse EDM and RC EDM, you can build the machine that best suits your needs. Our electrical designs give you the platform needed to build the power supply behind the operating unit.
Not sure which one is right for you? Read about RC vs Pulse EDM Machining.
Why EDM?
Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is a process that uses electrical discharges emitted from an electrode thousands or millions of times a second to erode an electrically conductive material. With this technology, it’s possible to erode or “burn” the reversed shape of an electrode into—or through—a workpiece. EDM allows for very unique and complicated methods of machining. And yes, you guessed it: perfectly square holes.
